Great work guys!

Postby James RGCD on Tue Feb 10, 2009 12:24 am

As editor of RGCD (http://www.rgcd.co.uk), I'm well aware how hard this sort of project is to get off the ground, and how much harder still it is to maintain a constant flow of work!

Kudos to all involved. Retroaction has been a real inspiration - it makes a nice change for me to be able to sit back and read a publication about retro homebrew and indie games other than my own!

Will you guys be attending Byte-Back 2009? I'll be there to launch the year-late issue 5 of RGCD, and it would be nice to meet fellow retro writers :)

Kind regards,

James.

Thanks for your kind words, James. I've never heard of Byte-Back before! Bit annoyed now as it's only a few weeks away and there's no way I'll be able to get there. Oh well, fingers crossed for next year's event!

Like Retro North in 2007, Byte Back is one of these one-off weekend events that pops up every now and again - it's not a regular scene party like Outline or Breakpoint, so I'm not surprised that you haven't heard of it!

Hopefully it'll be a success and like Fusion it'll be a regular annual event, but we'll see. I'm particularly looking forward to being able to spend some hours kicking back and playing games for fun for a change, instead of solely for review purposes!

Unfortunately I'm driving up to Stoke from Exeter (Devon), so I'm not able to offer a lift :(

Thanks, James. I've been an admirer of RGCD ever since I discovered its html delights and it's good to see it coming back after a short break. Be sure to give us a shout when #5 is released.

As for Byte Back 2009, well I'd love to go, but, you know, live gets in the way too often when travelling across the country is concerned.

Oh yes, real life... I know what you mean - you really wouldn't believe the hassle I went through with the wife and work to secure that weekend free. It's meant me taking a whole week off beforehand to burn 100's of CD's, print inserts and assemble cases *and* C64 carts / C64->PSX pad adapter pcb's, ensure I've got all the games set up on my systems that I need, and work out how to fit all of it within the limited table space I've been given.

If it was more frequent than once a year then it would be a no-go, but thankfully I've managed to argue my case on this occasion :D

Thanks for the kind words btw - I had to take a break from writing last year due to a job change, but it's great to be back. We should really try and work out some way to pool our resources and collaborate on a future project together.

Sounds like a good idea. What do you have in mind?

Well, I don't really know at the moment! After I've got RGCD #05 out of the way I'll have a think.

However, an obvious first step would be to share visibility with each other as to what we are covering in each issue during development to ensure that no new piece of review-worthy homebrew is left uncovered :)

Just wanted to back up James' praise. I've had a good read through both of the first two issues and am thoroughly impressed. Keep it up!
