Out-of-Print Archive update

Postby Nreive on Wed Oct 14, 2009 3:07 pm

I thought about starting this update weekly, but that might mean getting news of great magazine scans up to 6/7 days late. So I've gone for a straight update "as it happens" type thing... meppi has just released another Official Sega Saturn magazine scan set (issue 27 - January 1998) in high quality 1920 pixels wide. There's also a great selection of online features from this issue, including Astra Superstars, Steep Slope Sliders, The House of the Dead and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (arcade).

As usual, the scans look amazing. Well done to meppi.
Keeping it retro. Oh, yeah!

Issue 168 (November 1995) is very important in the timeline of Computer & Video Games magazine (a.k.a. CVG) as this was the first time that Paul Davies appeared as Editor, changing the face of the publication into one of the finest ever. Of course, he took over half way through this issue, and the major re-design and new staff members were a few issues off, but this is still an important chapter in CVG history. Additional online articles include Virtua Fighter (32X), Vectorman (Mega Drive/Genesis), Loaded (Psone) and NBA Jam Tournament Edition (Psone). Thanks to meppi (scanning and editing the scans), you can now witness this historic issue. Thanks must also go to Richard, who donated a huge amount of magazines, including many CVGs from the Paul Davies era. So, once again, thank you, Richard.

We are experiencing a server upgrade right now with the servers that host the myriad of sites we have going (OoPA, PPG and ClassicVGM being the ones I have a connection with that are being effected). We have our tech support team working on it around the clock and will return as quickly as possible. This was an upgrade that was mandatory and out of our hands due to the extremely high level of traffic we were receiving in such a short while.

Ah, right. That will explain why I can't get my daily dose of OoPA and PPG. Hope the sites aren't down for too long. Missing them already.

Me too Nreive, I have been finding out how many fans we have at both sites recently and just how far they reach with the e-mails that I am receiving recently about the sites (we are picking up many many readers from Russia and that part of the world and appreciate it immensely).

This server migration is a complicated one (we have quite a bit of content to transfer and it is has been effected by troubles on their end which make it even more interesting). We hope to be back up quickly though.

OoPA and Pixel Perfect Gaming (our gaming review site) are finally back up and running! It has been a hard and arduous experience getting things back up and running. I would like to thank all of our fans and members for sticking with us through this (OoPA was back online less than 4 minutes and we were already getting members logging in and checking things out. You can't buy dedicated members like that. Thank you all.

Issue 16 of MEGA (an early 1990s Mega Drive/Mega CD publication from Future Publishing) has been scanned and edited by someone called Nreive. Yes, this author took a couple of weeks away from editing/designing Retroaction to finally complete the arduous task of scanning and editing my first release for Out-of-Print Archive. "Why start with issue 16?" you may well ask. Well, some of you may already know -- or not -- that I started a personal project to scan the full set of MEGA magazines in 2007, and I had scanned about a dozen (some of which can be found elsewhere), so I wanted to work on an issue that I hadn't done before. Full details and contents of MEGA issue 16 can be found at the link below, including online articles: Dr.Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Dune 2: Battle for Arrakis, Toejam & Earl 2 and The Lost Vikings. Enjoy.

Thanks, triverse. It took longer than expected to do. Future releases should be done quicker, although I don't know how much time I will have to do them.
