--------------------- Ghost N Zombies available to pre-order

Ghost N Zombies

Ghouls 'n Ghosts is one of my all time fave arcade games, so it's great to see anything related or inspired by it. Ghost N Zombies is a ColecoVision game developed by J-P Meola (a.k.a. youki) and is slated for a Fall 2009 release. The game can be pre-ordered by visiting the Collectorvision website, where you can find more details about the game and other ColecoVision titles for sale or in production. Hurry though, because there is a limited production run of 45 games (upped from its initial 25), packaged in the official CBS-ColecoVision European style copies. There's also an excellent interview with youki over at UnNamedGaming, which is where I discovered this little gem of a game - cheers, triverse.

--------------------------- Orion Prime released

Orion Prime

I'm sure I posted this news a few days ago, but here it is again. After reporting on the fantastic Orion Prime teaser in issue 2's news pages, it has been announced that the game is now finished and available to purchase on 3" or 3.5" disk from the Orion Prime website. Although, the game is in French, there are plans to translate the game to English, Spanish, and German.

There's been a lot of excitement building up around various forums and gamers will be hoping that the developers (Arkos and Les Sucres en Morceaux) can live up to their successful teaser and the website's tagline: "The best Adventure game ever made on the Amstrad CPC!"

====================== Sango Fighter available as freeware

Sango Fighter

Quote from website:

"Sango Fighter is a vivid, high energy versus fighting game for the PC. Set in the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China, the game features a storyline and characters specific to this historical era. Sango Fighter was also made available for the Super A'can, a 16-bit game console released exclusively in Taiwan.

Developed by Panda Entertainment in Taiwan, Sango Fighter was originally a commercial game sold in Taiwan and exported in English. However, after Super Fighter Team acquired all legal rights to the game it was officially reclassified as freeware. As a result, it is now available for free download."

Game plot details, instructions, and downloads are available at Sango Fighter's home page. As Sango Fighter is a DOS game, you will need DOSBox to run it, which is available at DOSBox.com. Don't know how to use DOSBox then check out our excellent emulator guide in issue one.

---------------------------- BOH - "an original, retro-flavoured game of exploration and action"

BOH

While we're predominantly retro here, we're not totally ignorant of indie games, especially if they have a retro feel to them, and BOH certainly fits that description. BOH, which is available on AmigaOS 4, MacOS X, and Windows XP/Vista, is an exploration game, mixing action, puzzles, and adventure excellently. With its realistic field of vision gameplay - by default, you only see what is in front of your character - the game's developer, Simone Bevilacqua, has created a truly unique game, which we don't see often enough. Visit the BOH website to find out more. There are screenshots, trailers, videos, demos, images, themes, and more available to download. And if you like what you see, then why not purchase the game, which comes on CD-ROM (in DVD case) with a 24-page colour manual?

--------------------------------- Retro Respect: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker

It’s been a sad week for the entertainment industry, and indeed the whole world, with the passing of Michael Jackson. Paying tribute to MJ, thousands of fans purchased his albums and singles, with most of them re-entering the charts – his Number Ones album has topped the Offical UK Album Chart. Ashamedly, I don’t own any of his albums – I was never really into music in the eighties – but even I can recognise the sheer talent that Michael Jackson had as a singer and a dancer. He truly was an all round performer of the like we will never see again. To pay tribute in some little way, I fired up Moonwalker on the Sega Mega Drive and had a great nostalgic multimedia trip down memory lane...

Knight Lore Remake

The original Knight Lore is considered by many as a true classic game, which was the first to use the revolutionary isometric perspective. Developed and released by Ultimate Play the Game on the Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, MSX, and the BBC in 1984, we now have an MSX2 remake courtesy of Retroworks. As with the original game, the remake sees you controlling Sabreman as he treks through the isometric world searching for ingredients to a magic potion. The game features extras and improvements on the original game including different palettes for day/night, in game map that shows locations visited, improved music, torch animation, and much more. The Game Card can be found at the Retroworks' website, where you will find the game ROM download, PDF manual, packaging designs, and a game map. Also check out the YouTube clip to see the game in action. Thanks to Metalbrain for bringing us the news.

Nanako is tired of the constant fighting over the land around her, so she decides to seek advice from the ever-knowing Oracle on what to do. The Oracle tells Nanako that, rather than having the land around her suffer further bloodshed, she can resolve the problems by having the leaders take part in an ancient game created by the Gods themselves. The Kings and Queens will therefore abide by the rules and the outcome of the game.

Swiftly following on from their recent Amstrad CPC version of Nanako in Classic Japanese Monster Castle, The Mojon Twins have released their ZX Spectrum 128k interpretation on Biniax. ------------------------------ Computer Gamer & Electronic Fun with Computers and Games premiere issues

Retromags

CG #1

Computer Gamer was a UK multi-format magazine published in the 1980s by Argus. It's content included the usual review, previews, tips, guides, letters pages, and covertapes, but was unfortunately lost in the over-saturation of games magazines springing up in the mid to late eighties. The rare first issue has been scanned by an anonymous user, edited by triverse, and uploaded to Retromags, which you can find here.

Issue 1 of Computer Gamer includes Adventure Reviews, Approaching Adventures, Celebrity Corner: Paul Daniels, Coin-Op Connection, Into Games, On the ROAD, US Scene, Type In Programs. Reviews include Alien 8 (Spectrum), Archon (Commodore 64), Castle Quest (BBC), Chaos (Spectrum), Everyone's A Wally (Spectrum), MS. Pac-Man (Spectrum), Pole Position (BBC, Spectrum), and many more.

EFwCaG #1Admittedly, I hadn't heard of Electronic Fun with Computers and Games, so the download of its first ever issue - which can be found here - is all the more intriguing. This rare first issue from November 1982 was scanned, edited, and compiled by Kitsune.

Content of EFwCaG issue 1 includes reviews of the Vectrex (and launch games), Atari 5200 (and games), Raiders of the Lost Ark (2600), The Empire Strikes Back (2600), Communist Mutants From Space (2600), Megamania (2600), Microsurgeon (Intellivision), Omega Race (Vic-20), Jupiter Lander (Vic-20), and more.
